Newly widowed Santosh inherits her husband's job as a police constable in the rural badlands of Northern India. When a girl's body is found and a Muslim boy is suspected, igniting protests in the local community, she's pulled into the investigation under the wing of charismatic feminist inspector Sharma.

As the case develops, though, both women must confront their place within a corrupt system, and Santosh’s personal ethics are painfully challenged by the realities of her world.
